I am not ashamed to admit that I love the Golden Girls! It is and will always be one of my favorite TV shows. So with the recent passing of Estelle Getty, I've been thinking a lot about that show and how the humor got me through many challenges in life. I watch the re-runs daily now. Sophia was the incredible spitfire old lady I hope to be! I've haven't met to many people who have my passion for this show. Only Lyllah an old roommate from college, she was my "golden girls buddy." We would always make sure we were home in time to catch the daily episode and no matter what our mood, after watching the show we were smiling. I know it hasn't been on for decades but I still feel sad that one of my "golden girls" is gone!
Here are some of my favorite Sophiaims:
Sophia: Jealousy is a very ugly thing, Dorothy! – And so are you, in anything backless.
Sophia: When I turn my hearing-aid up to ten, I can hear a canary break wind in Lauderdale!

Ugh, now I've had that song in my head for almost 24 hours!
Nice... the quote about turning your hearing aid up! :o)
That actress definitely was spunky! I am sure she is kicking up her heels in heaven too!
I was smiling from cheek to cheek when I read that you remembered those days that we used to watch golden girls together! those were fun times and I always felt a little more at ease after each episode. And believe it or not, I still watch the re-runs and laugh all the time as if it was my first time!I too was sad when I read of ''sophia's' passing--there was so much spunk in her character!
ps. Were just winding down on the 10th Pacific Arts out here in Pago--we had more than 25 islands from the pacific represented and it was so nice to see some 'true' island dancing and culture--not the PCC stuff! Black Rose from Fiji also had a concert and they were the bomb! especially their signature track--dont know the name but I know Peni knows the song Im talking about--There was a fashion show and again, Fiji was the best! Loved all their different styles. Also got to see Tahiti, Rapa Nui, Papua New Guinea, Tokelau, and so on and so forth---
I love the golden girls! How come I never knew that about you? I've also been singing that song in my head all day. Thanks!!:-)
Oh my gosh, I was just in a grocery store around the corner from my office and over the loud speaker came the Golden Girls theme song! It was being sung by a man, though, which was strange, and it went on and on with various verses I never knew existed :) Perhaps people in Prague are feeling melancholy over losing Estelle Getty too!
